Growing up in a culturally conservative North Georgia, breaking from the norm wasn’t exactly celebrated. Those limitations didn’t stop my curiosity and affinity for bright, loud colors. As I got older I watched as the fearlessness and joy so evident in childhood started to fade as people grew up. I felt it in my own life. I also saw how the art world was rejecting some of the emotions and creative expresses that so many of us felt as kids that propelled us into pursuing the Arts.
Elementary is an opportunity for personal and collective celebration while challenging us to remember those childhood experiences we sometimes forget in the midst of our busy world. It’s an opportunity for me to share the experiences that shaped who I am today. I hope this show brings that joy, curiosity and courage so prevalent in a kid’s life.
